We will begin this course by examining the biological mechanisms that cause the physical deterioration associated with aging. Then we will look at how aging, on a structural level, affects the brain by examining in depth the age-related changes that affect one's memory, attention span, and processing speed related to decision-making. Last, we will focus on strategies that have been proven to help the brain age more gracefully and keep it functioning well, especially our memories.
Dr. Charles Plummer is a strong believer in life-long learning because studies show that it keeps one's brain functioning at a higher level as we age. He served as a combat aircrewman during the Korean War and later he was a teacher and principal in Auburn for 32 years. He then was a parent educator for five years for Child and Family Services working with parents who needed to improve their parenting skills to regain child custody.
